Inaugural Playing It Forward Music Festival a Success!

Music Festival PostcardSpring Hill, FLNovember 8, 2014 saw the pastoral Crews Lake Wilderness Park transformed into the inaugural Playing It Forward Music Festival. The festival was presented by the nonprofit Pay It Forward Farm (PIFF) and drew 1000-1500 attendees.

The music festival ran from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and featured six live bands. The day’s performance lineup featured the following bands who donated their time and talents:

  • Gary Pane, Manatee Man (Children’s Musician)
  • Makayla Honaker (Female Vocalist)
  • Silent Scream (Classic Rock)
  • J2 (Rock/Pop/Soul Duo)
  • Glad All Over Band (Classic Rock)
  • Those Unscrupulous Sunspots (American, Country Rock)

The day also included food trucks, craft and vendor tables and a drum circle presented by DanceCraft. Kids’ entertainment and fun included crafts and games, face-painting, caricature drawings and Rock Star Photo Station.

Family fun and games!

The event benefited Pay It Forward Farm programs that provide single mothers and their children help through life’s barriers with a hand up rather than a hand out.

Highlights of the day came through testimonials from current PIFF members about the personal successes they have achieved from the PIFF programs. This included taking the stage and putting into practice what they learned in public speaking classes in front of the hundreds of festival attendees.

I also had so many comments on how well-organized we were and how helpful we were to the vendors. Many vendors have already committed to coming back next year,” said Christine Collins, PIFF Executive Director.

The Festival’s presenting sponsor was Team Crouse, John and Mary Crouse – Realtors. Other community sponsors included Spring Hill Now, Hulafrog, Achieva Credit Union, Meadowlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home and Pasco County Parks & Recreation.

Members’ children get educational help through the volunteer tutoring program as well as socializing and arts and crafts.

Our first annual music festival was a success!

With over 1,000 people in attendance, our first annual Playing It Forward Music Festival was a hit! The music was fantastic, the vendors offered and gave away some great stuff, and the children had a good time with the crafts, games, and art. We also heard moving stories from our PIFF members, who filled us with inspiration and hope. Plus, one of our members leveled up!

Jessica Leveling Up

The day closed with an energetic drum circle and we managed to get everything packed away before the rain came.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all who attended – we’re very grateful for your continued support!

Check out event pictures on Facebook.

We’ve learned a lot planning this event and will continue to look at what went right and what we could improve upon. Can we count you in on next year’s festival?

Festival activities

We have so many fun things planned for our Playing It Forward Music Festival!

At the Kid’s Pavilion, there will be 11 games – ranging from easy to challenging – and 11 different craft stations, which will include assembly and decoration of simple musical instruments, coloring, Lego station, and more. After they’ve crafted their instruments, kids can go to the practice area and get ready for the sunset drum circle.

PIFF Passports

We’ll be selling passports which can be stamped and redeemed for prizes when all ten spots are filled. Stamps are earned by going to the different game and craft stations and participating in the activities. Win games and get bonus stamps which are good for larger prizes! Each passport is $2.

Rock star photo station

Have your child dress up like a rock star and get pictures taken by Melanie Pietrowski, a professional photographer. Prints will be available right on site for just $5.

Face painting

Spring Hill Artists will be on hand for all of your facial decoration needs. Simple designs are $2 and more complicated painting will be $5. KISS, anyone?

Caricature artist

Have a caricature artist capture your essence for just $5.

Kissing booth, 50/50 drawing, raffle

Win a bunch of Hershey’s kisses by guessing how many are in the jar ($1 per guess), plus take your chances on a 50/50. If we sell enough tickets, we’ll have multiple drawings! You can also buy tickets for a chance to win a festival t-shirt signed by all of the bands.

Dodgeball 2 U will have an area for playing dodgeball. You can buy single entry tickets, or an all day pass for $5.

Train rides

The Central Pasco & Gulf Railroad scale model trains will be giving rides throughout the day. The station is at the northeast corner of the park.

Other park features

Enjoy the pier (maybe even see an alligator or two) and observation tower at the east edge of the park, or head over to the playground, located next to the parking area. There are also walking trails, a garden area, and a basketball court.

Check out Crews Lake Wilderness Park on Facebook.

Final countdown to festival

We’re putting the finishing touches on our plans for the Playing It Forward Music Festival, and it’s shaping up to be quite an event! We’ll post every day this week about what we have in store: activities and games, vendors, food trucks, and great music.

sponsor-team-crouseFirst and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors who have helped make this event possible. Team Crouse realty has been a wonderful supporter, along with, Staywell Kids, Achieva credit union, Dignity Memorial, and Hulafrog. Plus we have a very generous anonymous donor for our volunteer t-shirts. We would also like to thank Wal*Mart and Kohl’s for providing volunteers for the event.

And last but not least, thanks to our awesome festival committee, members, and volunteers!! They’ve done a ton of work to pull this thing off. If you have any questions, comments, or need anything at the festival, look for a committee member wearing a bright tie-dye shirt with the festival logo. Or ask a festival volunteer (slate blue shirts with logo). They’ll be happy to help.

We look forward to seeing you there!!
